I happen to like a very wide range of musical genres. So here’s my shortlist of songs for growth and healing, in alphabetical order. There are more I could add but the list could go on forever, so I picked out a dozen. There are a few wildcards in there, others are self-explanatory. I often find myself singing away to the radio in the car (when I’m on my own lol) on autopilot. I often don’t pay attention to what the words are or the meaning of the lyrics. If you feel inclined to listen to some of my playlist, do listen to the words as they are important in this instance.
Just a bit of an explanation for some of my picks. Ellie Holcomb is a Christian music singer I recently discovered, some of you may not be familiar with her music. I have a few of her songs saved now on my apple music playlists. I assume she had a certain meaning in mind when she released her songs, some of her music can be interpreted in your own way though. For me, this song – I Will Carry You, signifies the importance of having a strong support network around you (in fact a lot of the songs on this list carry that same meaning to me). Ellie Holcomb has a beautiful voice and I played this song on repeat a lot when I first heard it, it was at a time when a lot of grief resurfaced for me and I found it very calming and reassuring that I am not alone.
Another few of my picks I’ll also explain. Faith Hill – While I am interested in a variety of different genres of music, Country is not usually my thing, letting go of your grief doesn’t mean saying goodbye for ever, it means holding the memory of the person you have lost in your heart where ever you go. This song reminds me that the legacy of my loved ones who have passed live on in me and as long as I live their memory lives on.
Jason Mraz’s Living In The Moment is a beautiful, catchy and upbeat song I discovered on a wee online photography course on getting to know yourself through photography. I sort of abandoned the wee course part way through, but I may go back to it sometime in the future. I digress, anyway this song instantly lifts my mood and is a reminder of the importance of living in the here and now.
The last one I’ll explain is Keala Settle’s This Is Me, I’m a sucker for a big dramatic musical, this is the theme tune from ‘The Greatest Showman’. This song is a reminder for me to be myself, as I am and to love every part of myself and be proud and confident of the person I am. This is something I will be working on for probably the rest of my days but its not all about the destination, the journey there is important too.
I’m about to find out if I can post Youtube videos on this, so wish me luck lol. I’m posting the versions with the lyrics on screen, because as I previously pointed out – The lyrics are important and you may not be familiar with all the songs. Hope you enjoy my playlist!
